Best Zendesk Subscription and Billing Apps (2026): 16 Marketplace Apps Scored
The best Zendesk subscription and billing apps in October 2026, after the four we already scored in our ecommerce roundup, are Stax Bill Connect, Square by ChargeDesk, Stripe by Canadesk and FastBill App by LEAFWORKS, which share the top tier at 8 of 10 on our five public criteria. Ten apps follow on 7, including WHMCS, ChartMogul, Zoho Billing and Stripe Connector. Zendesk's Marketplace has 45 third-party apps that mention billing, subscriptions, invoices, payments or refunds. We scored the 16 whose job is putting a customer's billing record on the ticket, and show every score.
Key takeaways
- Stax Bill Connect, Square by ChargeDesk, Stripe by Canadesk and FastBill App by LEAFWORKS form the top tier at 8 of 10, all acting from the ticket sidebar.
- No app in this list scored a point on reviews, because the two with the most, WHMCS with 34 and ChartMogul with 20, average below 4 stars.
- Apps that only display billing data score 1 on working in the ticket, so the 8s are the apps that can refund, cancel or attach invoices.
- Six apps carry a listing date of April 4, 2025, more than 12 months old, which costs each of them a point on maintenance.
- A billing app and an AI agent that can both refund the same Stripe charge need one clear owner, or a customer can be refunded twice.

Tiers: 8 (apps 1-4), 7 (apps 5-14), 6 (app 15), 5 (app 16). Averages are computed from the Marketplace catalog's per-star counts.
Already scored elsewhere: ChargeDesk (8), Stripe by Zenplates (8), Recurly for Support (7) and Chargebee (7) are ranked on the same rubric in our Zendesk integrations for ecommerce roundup and keep those scores. ChargeDesk has 160 reviews, far more than any app below. On Stripe by Zenplates' listing, Steph wrote almost 3 years ago that "it's so helpful to have the customer's information readily available on tickets."
How we scored them
We kept apps whose main job is showing a customer's billing record in Zendesk Support or acting on it. Each app is scored 0 to 2 on five criteria.
| Criterion | 2 points | 1 point | 0 points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace reviews | Average 4.5+ with 50+ reviews | 4.0+ with 10+ reviews | Fewer or none |
| Published price | Full price on the listing or vendor site | A free tier or "from" price only | Contact sales |
| Works in the ticket | Acts inside the ticket or agent workspace with documented features | View-only or limited | Unclear |
| Setup effort | Marketplace install with documented self-serve setup | Needs configuration help or an onboarding call | Custom work or undocumented |
| Maintained | Listing or app updated in the last 12 months | 12 to 24 months | Older or unknown |
Tied apps share a tier; inside it they are listed by review count, then installs, then name. Most apps here are free connectors to a billing product you pay for separately, so for a free app we score price on whether the billing product publishes its own prices; tier lists with a custom Enterprise tier still score 2; one published tier with the rest on quote scores 1, as in our ecommerce roundup, and so does a price shown only at checkout. Works in the ticket scores 2 only for apps in the ticket sidebar or editor that can change something, such as a refund, a cancellation or an attached invoice. Sidebar apps that only display data score 1. Maintained uses the "Last updated" date printed on each listing.
Top tier, 8 of 10: four apps that act on the bill
All four lose their review point, and all four can change something from the ticket.
1. Stax Bill Connect: refunds and cancellations for Stax Bill, 8/10
Blue Gem Development's Stax Bill Connect searches Stax Bill for the customer using details from the ticket, shows their customers and orders, and lets an agent issue a refund or cancel a subscription. It costs $5 per agent per month after a 14-day trial, and setup is a single API key pasted into the app settings. Stax Bill itself asks new customers to book a demo before they get an account. The listing was updated on December 1, 2025.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 2.
Its one review, from an anonymous user 12 months ago, is one star: "It does not find and locate customer data." Blue Gem replied 11 months ago that "Stax Bill had updated their API and our app needed to updated as well," and that the app had since been fixed. When a billing vendor changes its API, a small connector breaks until its maker catches up. Blue Gem sells the same app pattern for Pabbly and PayWhirl, at #11 and #12.
Best for: teams on Stax Bill who refund often enough to want it in the ticket.
2. Square by ChargeDesk: Square orders and subscriptions in the sidebar, 8/10
Square by ChargeDesk matches the requester to their Square customer record, shows billing history, and lets agents refund orders, cancel subscriptions, request payments and edit customer details such as VAT numbers. The app is free to install, and the cost is a ChargeDesk account: its pricing page lists Hobby at $29, Startup at $99, Business at $249 and Enterprise at $749 a month, by recent paying customers and active agents, with a 14-day trial. It was updated in February 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 2.
ChargeDesk prices by paying customers, so a small team with a big customer base moves up a tier quickly. On ChargeDesk's main listing, Matt F wrote over 8 years ago that "We're able to manage memberships, create invoices and payments, provide cancellations and refunds and more all from the comfort of our Zendesk tickets."
Best for: businesses that take payments through Square.
3. Stripe by Canadesk: a Stripe panel with guardrails, 8/10
Canadesk, a Montréal consultancy, looks the requester up in Stripe by email and shows subscriptions, payments, invoices and the customer record, with a warning at the top for a declined card or an unpaid invoice. Agents can refund in full or in part, cancel at period end (and undo it while pending), end a subscription immediately, or copy the billing portal link into a reply. Each action is off until an admin switches it on, and setup asks for a restricted Stripe key with named permissions. It's free, and it was published on September 30, 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 2.
The listing says "Every completed action becomes a private note on the ticket," naming the agent, the amount and the Stripe identifiers. Canadesk also says the refund and cancel buttons show "to everyone who can open it, or to nobody," so decide who gets them first. It's a month old with one install, so the track record is short.
Best for: Stripe teams that want refunds in the ticket with an audit note on every action.
4. FastBill App by LEAFWORKS: German invoicing next to the ticket, 8/10
Leafworks, a Zendesk implementation partner, built this app for FastBill. It searches by backend ID, name, phone or email on each new ticket, shows the customer's contact details, invoices and estimates, previews documents, and attaches an invoice to the ticket without a download. It's $50 a month per account after a 14-day trial, updated in November 2025.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 2.
Setup asks you to base64-encode your FastBill email and API key yourself, so expect an admin to do it.
Best for: FastBill customers whose agents send invoice copies on request.
Second tier, 7 of 10: ten apps
Five of these only display billing data, so they lose a point on working in the ticket. Zoho Billing, Refunds, Pabbly Connect and PayWhirl Connect act in the ticket but carry an April 2025 listing date, and Stripe Connector acts but no longer prints its price.
5. WHMCS: hosting clients, domains and due invoices, 7/10
ModulesGarden's WHMCS app shows the WHMCS client behind a ticket: customer details, ordered products, assigned domains and due invoices. It's free, and WHMCS's own pricing page lists cloud plans at $9.99, $25 and $75 a month and self-hosted licenses at $34.95, $54.95 and $84.95. Setup follows ModulesGarden's linked documentation, and the listing was updated in April 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 1, setup 2, maintained 2.
Its 34 reviews, the most here, average 3.76; six are one-star.
Best for: web hosts and registrars running billing on WHMCS.
6. ChartMogul: revenue context, read-only, 7/10
ChartMogul's app shows MRR, ARR and recent subscription activity for the customer on the ticket, and the listing states that "The app is read-only." Setup is an API token and role restrictions. ChartMogul's pricing page has a free plan up to $10K MRR, Starter and Pro priced in seven revenue bands each, and Enterprise from $19,900 a year. The listing was updated in February 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 1, setup 2, maintained 2.
Its 20 reviews average 3.45, with six one-star and 11 five-star ratings. ChartMogul reads from your billing system, so it tells an agent what a customer is worth, but a refund happens elsewhere.
Best for: SaaS teams that prioritize tickets by account value.
7. Zoho Billing: subscriptions and invoices, plus new customers, 7/10
Zoho's own app shows a customer's subscriptions, invoices, addresses and comments on the ticket, and lets an agent add a customer to Zoho Billing. Zoho's US pricing page lists Standard at $50 and Premium at $100 per organization per month, or $39 and $79 billed annually. It has 2 five-star reviews.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 1.
Its listing was last updated on April 4, 2025, and the app before that in 2023.
Best for: Zoho Billing users who also want customers created from support.
8. Loop Subscriptions: Shopify subscribers on the ticket, 7/10
Loop's app shows a Shopify subscriber's subscription details from Loop on the ticket. Setup starts in Loop, which generates a one-time API key you paste in Zendesk. The app is free, and Loop's pricing page lists Starter at $99 a month plus 1.0% per transaction, Pro at $399 plus 0.75%, a free plan up to 50 active subscriptions, and Enterprise on request. It was updated in June 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 1, setup 2, maintained 2.
The app displays; skips, pauses and cancellations stay in Loop's own admin. We covered what Loop's API allows in what an AI agent can do in Loop Subscriptions.
Best for: Shopify subscription brands on Loop that need the plan in view.
9. Refunds: bank-transfer refunds with finance approval, 7/10
Sparkly's Refunds handles the refunds your payment provider can't: an agent files a refund request from the ticket, finance approves or rejects it, and the ticket updates either way. It warns on duplicate requests from the same bank account, enforces a maximum refund, and exports approved refunds as SEPA XML for the bank. Professional costs $199 a month for up to 1,000 refunds in history, and Enterprise $349 for up to 5,000, after a 7-day trial. It needs Zendesk custom objects.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 1.
Its listing date is April 4, 2025, and setup includes currencies, bank accounts and triggers on the app's internal notes. For the native options, see how to automate refunds in Zendesk.
Best for: European businesses refunding by bank transfer.
10. SubscriptionFlow: plan, status and billing dates, 7/10
SubscriptionFlow's app shows the requester's plan name, status, payment status and billing dates. After install, each agent clicks "Login to SubscriptionFlow" in the sidebar before data appears. SubscriptionFlow's pricing page lists Startup at $99, Rise at $199 and Scale at $299 a month billed annually, by yearly revenue, with Enterprise on quote. It was updated in July 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 1, setup 2, maintained 2.
Best for: SubscriptionFlow customers.
13. Stripe Connector: field-level control over Stripe data, 7/10
eOne Solutions' Stripe Connector shows the customer's Stripe record, charges, refunds, disputes, invoices with line items, and subscriptions. Agents can update the customer's contact, address and tax fields, refund a charge in full or in part, and cancel a subscription with a choice of how to charge for the remaining period. Admins choose which tabs and fields appear. It runs through eOne's Popdock service, which issues the widget IDs you paste into the app. The listing was updated in March 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 1, works in the ticket 2, setup 2, maintained 2.
The catalog lists one active plan at $7 per agent per month, which the listing also showed in a Wayback Machine copy from November 8, 2025. Neither the live listing nor eOne's page printed a price when we checked, so it scores 1 on price; confirm it at checkout.
Best for: teams that want to choose exactly which Stripe fields agents see.
14. Xero Integration by Gravity CX: invoices by number, read-only, 7/10
Gravity CX's app matches the requester to a Xero contact by email, then phone, and shows invoices grouped as outstanding, paid and draft, with overdue flags and the outstanding balance per currency. Agents can paste an invoice number from the ticket to open it, with line items and tax. It's read-only, connects by Xero sign-in, and costs $2.50 per agent per month after a 7-day trial. It was updated in September 2026.
Scores: reviews 0, price 2, works in the ticket 1, setup 2, maintained 2.
Best for: B2B teams answering "have you received my payment?" from Xero.
The rest of the ranking
| # | App | What it does | Scores (rev/price/ticket/setup/maint) | Total | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11 | Pabbly Connect | Pabbly customers, refunds, cancellations | 0/2/2/2/1 | 7 | Same Blue Gem app as #1; $5 per agent; listing April 4, 2025 |
| 12 | PayWhirl Connect | PayWhirl customers, invoices, refunds, cancellations | 0/2/2/2/1 | 7 | Same pattern, $5 per agent; listing April 4, 2025 |
| 15 | Zoho Invoice | Invoices, estimates and transactions | 0/2/1/2/1 | 6 | Free app; Zoho Invoice is free |
| 16 | Chargify | Customers and subscriptions, view only | 0/1/1/2/1 | 5 | Chargify is now Maxio; Grow is $599/month and Scale is on quote |
Maxio's pricing page is where chargify.com now redirects, and the app's own description and setup steps still use the Chargify name. With 33 installs and no reviews, ask Maxio whether the app is still supported before you rely on it. Zoho Invoice's free plan, per its US pricing page, allows two users and 500 invoices a year.
Display apps and action apps
Nine of the 16 can change the bill: refund, cancel, attach an invoice, add a customer or file a refund request. The other seven show data and send the agent to the billing system for anything else.
Display apps can't move money, so every agent can have them. Action apps need a decision about who can refund. Square by ChargeDesk restricts actions by agent or group. Stripe by Canadesk can't tell agents apart, so its own listing tells you to decide who should see the buttons before switching them on. The Blue Gem apps don't document per-agent limits.
The incentive differs by who built the app. Billing vendors like Zoho, Loop and ChartMogul give the app away because they earn from your billing subscription, so the app is there to keep your billing on their platform. Third-party connectors like Blue Gem's earn per agent seat, and depend on someone else's API, which is how the Stax Bill app broke until a customer reported it.
What a billing app changes for an AI agent on the same tickets
When we set up AI agents in a Zendesk account, the billing apps already installed shape the setup. On Zendesk, Macha's tools read the ticket, its comments, custom field values and field definitions, and write status, priority, custom fields, tags, internal notes and public replies. Macha's Stripe connector reads customers, payments, charges, subscriptions and invoices, and can create a refund, cancel a subscription or create a payment link.
That overlap is the first thing we check. If Stripe by Canadesk or Stripe Connector lets an agent refund a charge and the AI agent can refund it too, two paths reach the same money. We decide which one owns refunds, and where the agent keeps the tool, we confirm its replies post as internal notes before it's allowed to run on its own.
Second, apps that write to the ticket. Canadesk adds a private note for every action, and Sparkly's Refunds expects triggers built on its internal notes. Those updates can wake an agent's trigger, so we use the tag-and-exclude pattern: the trigger adds a tag when it fires and excludes that tag from its conditions. Third, fields: if an app stores a customer ID in a custom field, we read the field definitions so the agent doesn't overwrite it (see custom fields and AI agents).
Then we replay past billing tickets in a simulation before anything runs on its own.
Where AI fits
Every app above puts the bill in front of a person. An AI agent can read the same record, answer "why was I charged twice?" from it, and refund or cancel where your policy allows, with the agent's tags and notes left on the ticket.
Macha runs AI agents inside the Zendesk account you already have, set up and monitored by the Macha team, and its Stripe connector covers the read and refund steps described above. It fits teams on Zendesk that bill through Stripe and want routine billing tickets answered in the ticket, while apps like Refunds keep running approvals that need finance. For the full Stripe workflow, see how to automate Stripe billing tickets in Zendesk, and for Chargebee, the three ways to connect it. Pricing starts at $299/month for 750 tickets, with a trial of $50 of free usage (about 125 tickets), no credit card, no time limit.

FAQs
What are the best Zendesk subscription billing apps?
On our rubric, Stax Bill Connect, Square by ChargeDesk, Stripe by Canadesk and FastBill App by LEAFWORKS share the top tier at 8 of 10. ChargeDesk and Stripe by Zenplates, scored in our ecommerce roundup, also have 8.
Is there a free Stripe app for Zendesk?
Yes. Stripe by Canadesk is free and can refund and cancel from the ticket sidebar once an admin turns those actions on. Stripe by Zenplates costs $4.95 per agent per month, and Stripe Connector's catalog plan is $7.
Can agents refund customers without leaving Zendesk?
With an action app, yes. Stripe by Canadesk, Stripe Connector, Square by ChargeDesk and the Blue Gem apps refund through the billing system's API from the ticket sidebar. Display apps such as ChartMogul and Xero by Gravity CX can't.
Do billing apps work alongside an AI agent?
Yes, if one of them owns refunds. Decide whether the app or the agent issues refunds, and set the agent's triggers to ignore the notes and tags the app writes.

How we researched this
On October 29, 2026 we queried the Zendesk Marketplace catalog of 1,812 apps. Its keyword cluster for subscriptions and billing holds 18 third-party apps; widening the match to invoices, payments, refunds and named billing vendors gave 45. We ranked the 16 that put a customer's billing record on the Support ticket, and left out time-billing, reseller-portal, Sell-only, payment-collection, AI-first and store apps, plus the four billing apps scored in our ecommerce roundup.
We read all 16 listings on zendesk.co.uk on October 29 and 30 in a rendered browser, read vendor pricing pages on October 30, and used only plans the catalog marks as active. Among the 16, review text was visible only on Stax Bill Connect's listing; the ChargeDesk and Stripe by Zenplates quotes come from those listings, rendered October 29. We didn't install or test any app or contact any vendor, and one reviewer applied the scores to public pages only.
Prices are shown in US dollars.
Disclosure: Macha makes AI agents that run inside help desks. Nobody paid to be listed, and Macha is not ranked here.
