Retell AI users rarely leave over the product; they leave over support that runs through an AI and Discord, outbound calls blocked outside its supported countries, and a per-minute bill built from five parts. At 10,000 minutes a month, LiveKit Cloud, ElevenLabs Agents and the low end of Vapi are the only alternatives here that can undercut Retell's roughly $1,144.

Key takeaways

  • At 10,000 minutes a month, LiveKit Cloud costs about $591, ElevenLabs Agents about $812 plus a carrier, and Vapi $819 to $1,290, the only three alternatives that can undercut Retell AI's roughly $1,144.
  • Retell AI held a 4.9 Trustpilot rating from 814 reviews on September 24, 2026, with 94% five-star and 1% one-star, though some reviews carry Trustpilot's Invited label.
  • Vapi's docs include SIP trunk guides for Twilio, Telnyx, DIDWW, didlogic, Zadarma, Plivo and Amazon Chime, letting teams route around Retell AI's outbound calling restrictions in unsupported countries.
  • Synthflow sells only annual contracts starting at $30,000 a year, a $2,500 monthly floor that only pays off for teams already running above roughly 31,000 minutes a month.
  • PolyAI's AWS Marketplace contract requires a 500,000-minute minimum over 12 months for $175,000, working out to $14,583 a month, the most expensive option in the comparison.
What Are the Best Retell AI Alternatives in 2026? 7 Priced at 10,000 Minutes

The best Retell AI alternative for teams blocked by carrier or country limits is Vapi, at $0.05 a minute plus providers at cost; LiveKit Cloud is the cheapest at about $591 for 10,000 minutes against Retell's roughly $1,144, and Synthflow or PolyAI suit teams that want contracted support.

For the product itself, see our Retell AI complete guide. Retell publishes its own competitor overview, which ranks on page one for this search, and Synthflow and Bland, two of the alternatives below, wrote other page-one results.

Why do teams look for a Retell AI alternative?

Retell's reviews are unusually good. On Trustpilot it held 4.9 from 814 reviews on September 24, 2026, 802 of them posted in the 12 months before our first read, with 94% five-star and 1% one-star. The profile is claimed and some reviews carry Trustpilot's "Invited" label, which lifts the count. When our Retell pricing post read G2 the same morning, it showed 4.8 from 2,638 reviews.

So the complaints below come from a small share of users. We read every one-, two- and three-star Trustpilot review on September 19, 2026, and they cluster into four problems.

1. Support runs through an AI and a Discord server. Leshawn Clarke (UK, December 22, 2025) wrote that "they have an AI that replies to you instead, and an AI cannot help with verification. Also they tell you to get support on discord." Basti (Germany, October 8, 2025) said "you need to join a Discord as their help desk and they never reply." Arno Van der Walt (South Africa, November 4, 2025) called Retell "the perfect company to work with if you have a need for NO SUPPORT."

2. Outbound calls to unsupported countries fail. Abdulselam Almnini (Turkey, March 11, 2026) quoted the error he got calling Turkish numbers: the dialed country "is not included in whitelisted countries USA, CAN." He had bought his own Telnyx number to get around it. Homecracker (UK, July 29, 2025) called the platform "unusable in the UK." Retell's international calling docs say a destination "just needs to appear in the supported list," and the list differs by the carrier behind your Retell number.

Retell docs, Sept 19, 2026: international calling works where the destination is on the supported list

3. Verification and account holds. Karen Róbertsdóttir (Iceland, August 5, 2025) gave up when, after buying a number, "they wanted my f'ing passport." Shefeeque Abdul Rahman (Malaysia, March 7, 2025) wrote that Retell "will block your account without telling you ahead of time," and that the block lasted a week.

4. Latency, testing costs and a bill in parts. David Hartmann (UAE, March 25, 2026) said "the latency of the model didnt support fast paced conversations." A three-star reviewer from Canada (January 28, 2026) asked for a way to test webhooks "so we dont spend 15$ on random tests debugging stuff." Retell's pricing page quotes $0.07 to $0.31 a minute because the price is the sum of voice infrastructure, voice, model, telephony and add-ons. A realistic support stack comes to about $0.114 a minute.

Who should stay on Retell AI?

Most Retell customers should. If you call the US and Canada, want to start without a sales call, and are comfortable with community-first support, you won't find a better-reviewed self-serve platform. Retell includes 20 concurrent calls before charging $8 a month per extra line, gives $10 of credit to start, and costs about $1,144 at 10,000 minutes with GPT 5.4 mini, a platform voice, US telephony and a knowledge base. Several alternatives below are cheaper per minute, but none has Retell's review base.

How do the Retell AI alternatives compare?

Prices checked September 19, 2026 on each vendor's pricing page; Retell, Vapi, LiveKit, ElevenLabs, Bland, Synthflow, CloudTalk and PolyAI's AWS listing were rechecked September 24. Ratings are Trustpilot unless noted.

What do the alternatives cost at 1,000 and 10,000 minutes?

We assumed an inbound line with a 4-minute average call: about 250 calls a month at 1,000 minutes and 2,500 at 10,000. Each row is the cheapest combination the vendor sells that covers the volume.

Only LiveKit, ElevenLabs and the low end of Vapi's range come in under Retell at 10,000 minutes, and ElevenLabs needs a carrier number on top, though it adds no telephony charge of its own. Retell's price is competitive; people who leave it are usually leaving for control, coverage or support rather than a lower rate.

What are the 7 best Retell AI alternatives?

Vapi

Vapi is the closest developer-grade substitute: you pay $0.05 a minute to Vapi and pay the transcriber, model and voice providers at cost, through Vapi or with your own keys. Its calculator puts 10,000 minutes at $819 to $1,290 with default providers. The usage-only tier has $5 of credit, 4 concurrent calls and one free US number; Core at $29 a month raises that to 10 calls and 5 numbers.

Vapi pricing, Sept 19, 2026: usage-only tier with 4 concurrent calls and Discord peer support; Core $29

For the country problem, Vapi's docs include SIP trunk guides for Twilio, Telnyx, DIDWW, didlogic, Zadarma, Plivo and Amazon Chime, so you choose the carrier and inherit its coverage. Run a test call to your destination countries before you migrate; we didn't test any. For the support problem, Vapi is no better on its free tier: the pricing page lists "peer to peer support via Discord community" and "email support without SLA" until you buy a package. Trustpilot shows 2.4 from 15 reviews.

Choose it if you have engineers and want every layer of the call under your control. See our Vapi guide.

LiveKit

LiveKit is two things: an open-source agent framework (livekit/agents on GitHub, Apache-2.0 licensed) that you can run on your own servers, and LiveKit Cloud, which hosts it for you. The AI Overview for this search names it as the self-hosted route. Cloud plans on its pricing page are Build ($0), Ship (from $50 a month) and Scale (from $500), with Scale adding region pinning and HIPAA.

LiveKit pricing calculator, Sept 19, 2026: agent session and US number $0.01/min each, Cartesia TTS $0.03
LiveKit pricing calculator, Sept 19, 2026: agent session and US number $0.01/min each, Cartesia TTS $0.03

The calculator's default phone stack (Gemma 4 31B, Deepgram Nova-3, Cartesia Sonic 3, a LiveKit US number, observability) comes to $0.0672 a minute. On Ship at 10,000 minutes: $50 for the plan, $50 for agent-session minutes past the 5,000 included, $99 for inbound minutes past the 100 included, $367 of inference after the $5 credit, and $25 of recordings past 5,000 minutes. That's about $591. At 1,000 minutes the same plan comes to about $91.

The trade is effort. LiveKit gives you a framework and infrastructure, not a no-code builder, and it answers latency complaints by letting you pick fast models and pin regions. Choose it if you'd rather own the stack than rent one. We don't have a LiveKit guide.

ElevenLabs Agents

ElevenLabs prices every call minute at $0.08, whether it's inside a plan (Starter $6 for 75 minutes up to Business $990 for 12,375) or bought extra, per its Agents pricing page. The model is passed through at cost, from fractions of a cent a minute. ElevenLabs "does not charge extra for telephony," per the same page, but you connect your own carrier number, so the carrier bills you directly. That makes the bill three lines instead of five.

ElevenLabs Pay As You Go docs, Sept 19, 2026: prepaid balance drawn down, top up manually or automatically
ElevenLabs Pay As You Go docs, Sept 19, 2026: prepaid balance drawn down, top up manually or automatically

At 10,000 minutes on Pro it's about $812 before telephony; a Twilio local number adds roughly $86. The watch-out is in the Pay As You Go docs: new self-serve customers buy extra minutes from a prepaid balance, and service pauses at zero if auto top-up is off or fails. Trustpilot's 3.0 from 1,150 reviews covers the whole company.

Choose it if voice quality and a simple rate matter most. See our ElevenLabs Agents guide.

Bland

Bland's pricing page headline is "No token charges. No model-provider pass-throughs," and that is the difference from Retell: one per-minute rate per plan. Start is $0.14 a minute with no platform fee, 10 concurrent calls and 100 calls a day; Build is $0.12 plus $299 a month, 50 concurrent and 2,000 a day. Bland's billing docs add a Scale plan at $499 plus $0.11 and say the plan-based rates took effect December 5, 2025.

At 10,000 minutes the Start plan costs $1,400, more than Retell. What you buy is predictability and Bland's Enterprise options (on-prem or VPC deployment, BAA, SSO). Budget for the carrier too: on September 24 the pricing page said telephony is billed separately, on your own carrier or on Bland's at pass-through cost, while older docs wording says SIP cost is included on Bland's endpoints, so confirm it in writing before you sign. Trustpilot has only 2 reviews.

Choose it if you dial out at volume or need the agent inside your own cloud. See our Bland AI guide.

Synthflow

Synthflow answers the support complaint by selling only contracts. Its Enterprise docs list a "sales-led annual agreement," "contracted support and availability terms," and "account team and launch support." Contracts start at $30,000 a year, or $2,500 a month before you place a call.

Synthflow Enterprise docs, Sept 19, 2026: sales-led annual agreement, account team and launch support
Synthflow Enterprise docs, Sept 19, 2026: sales-led annual agreement, account team and launch support

Below about 31,000 minutes a month, most of that floor pays for unused capacity, so Synthflow suits teams already above that volume. Its metering is generous: seconds pool across calls instead of rounding each one up, and billing stops after a successful transfer. Trustpilot shows 4.1 from 215 reviews, only 7 from the past year. Choose it if you're already past that volume and want an account team, not a self-serve dashboard. Our Synthflow alternatives guide covers its own complaints, and the Synthflow guide covers the product.

CloudTalk

CloudTalk is a business phone system with AI voice agents built in. Its AI voice agents page offers "Free 50 AI minutes · 14-day Trial · No Card Required" and says 40,000+ sales and support teams use CloudTalk. In the USD table on its pricing page, the AI Specialist starts at $349 a month for 1,000 minutes, about $0.35 a minute, with bundles up to 5,000 minutes for $1,249 and a custom rate from €0.15 a minute above 10,000. Phone seats ran $25 to $49 a user in our September 19 read; the euro view on September 24 showed €19 to €49 billed annually.

CloudTalk AI voice agents page, Sept 19, 2026: free 50 AI minutes, 14-day trial, no card required

It costs about three times Retell's per-minute rate at 1,000 minutes. What it adds is the human side: when the agent can't help, the call goes to a person on the same system, and CloudTalk is a support vendor you can phone. Trustpilot's 4.1 from 823 reviews is for the whole phone product. Choose it if you need seats for human agents anyway. We don't have a CloudTalk guide.

PolyAI

PolyAI builds, runs and tunes the agent with you. Its pricing page says use is "priced on a per-minute basis, which includes proactive performance improvements, maintenance and 24/7 support." PolyAI's AWS Marketplace listing puts a number on it: a 12-month contract with a minimum of 500,000 minutes for $175,000, or $0.35 a minute, with no refunds.

PolyAI pricing page, Sept 19, 2026: per-minute pricing that includes maintenance and 24/7 support
PolyAI pricing page, Sept 19, 2026: per-minute pricing that includes maintenance and 24/7 support

That is the most direct answer to "no support," and the most expensive entry on this list at $14,583 a month. Trustpilot has only 2 reviews. Choose it if you run a contact center above about 42,000 minutes a month and want a vendor accountable for results. Our PolyAI guide covers it in depth.

What does each billing model reward?

Retell's component pricing earns more when you pick a heavier model, a premium voice or a long prompt, and it lets you see each choice's cost. That's fair, but it makes the monthly total hard to predict.

What moves when you switch from Retell?

Agent configuration can be pulled out. Retell's API has Get Voice Agent, Get Retell LLM and Get Conversation Flow endpoints, so a developer can export prompts, settings and flow structure as JSON. No other platform imports that format, so plan to rebuild the flow; the prompt text transfers as-is.

Numbers on your own carrier move easily. Retell's custom telephony docs cover elastic SIP trunks from Twilio, Telnyx and Vonage. If your numbers live there, you re-point the trunk. For numbers bought inside Retell, the docs don't cover porting out, so ask support before you cancel.

Call history. Retell's List Calls and Get Call endpoints return past calls; export what you need for QA and compliance before the account closes.

Webhooks and tools. Your endpoints keep working. Rewire each tool definition on the new platform and re-test with real calls.

Run both for two weeks. Point a second number at the new agent, compare latency and completion on real traffic, then move the main number.

What if your queue is email and chat, not calls?

If most of your volume is tickets in a help desk, a voice platform is the wrong tool. Macha is an AI agent layer on Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom: agents read and reply inside the ticket, billing is per ticket from $299 a month for 750 tickets, and setup and monitoring by the Macha team are included. It suits teams already running one of those help desks; it doesn't take phone calls. The tiers are on our pricing page, and our guide to AI agents for customer service explains where voice and ticket agents each fit.

How we researched this

On September 19, 2026 we checked the pricing pages of Retell and all seven alternatives (rechecked September 24), LiveKit's plain-text pricing file, Retell's international calling, custom telephony and API docs, Vapi's docs index, Synthflow's Enterprise docs, ElevenLabs' Pay As You Go docs and PolyAI's AWS listing. We read Retell's low-star Trustpilot reviews with a scripted browser. G2 blocked our browser that day, so its Retell figure comes from our pricing post's read that morning, and the Reddit thread on this SERP wouldn't load. We did not build an agent on any of these platforms or create any accounts, and we did not place test calls, so the costs come from published rates and our stated assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Retell AI? It depends on why you're leaving. Vapi fits developers who need other carriers or countries; LiveKit fits teams that want to self-host; ElevenLabs Agents and Bland fit teams that want a simpler rate; Synthflow and PolyAI fit teams that want contracted support.

Is there a free or open-source alternative to Retell AI? LiveKit's agent framework is open source under Apache-2.0, and LiveKit Cloud's Build plan is $0. ElevenLabs Agents has a free plan with 15 minutes, Vapi gives $5 of credit and Bland's Start plan has no platform fee. In each case you still pay for models and telephony at production volume.

Is Retell AI free to use? Retell gives $10 of free credit and charges nothing monthly; after that you pay per minute, from $0.07 for voice infrastructure and voice alone to about $0.114 for a typical support stack.

How good is Retell AI? Its reviews are among the strongest in voice AI: 4.9 on Trustpilot from 814 reviews and 4.8 on G2 from 2,638. The complaints that do appear focus on support access, country restrictions and account verification.

Is Vapi cheaper than Retell? At 10,000 minutes Vapi's calculator gives $819 to $1,290 against Retell's $1,144 for a comparable stack, so it depends on the providers you pick.

Can Retell call international numbers? Retell-managed numbers call the destinations on its supported list, which varies by carrier. One reviewer reported outbound calls to Turkey blocked even with his own Telnyx number, so test your destinations before you build on them.

Does Retell have a white-label option? It is a related search, but we didn't verify white-label features on Retell or on any alternative here. Ask each vendor for a branded demo workspace before signing.

Which is better, Retell or Synthflow? For most teams under about 31,000 minutes a month, Retell: it's self-serve and roughly $1,144 at 10,000 minutes against Synthflow's $2,500 floor. Synthflow makes sense above that volume if you want an account team and contracted support.

If your support volume sits in a help desk rather than on the phone, you can start a Macha trial with $50 of free usage and no card, or see our tiers on the pricing page.
