Why do people leave Chatfuel?

Chatfuel rates 4.3 from 28 reviews on Capterra, with ease of use at 4.1 and customer service at 3.7, and 3.2 from 14 on Trustpilot, split between seven five-star and four one-star reviews (both checked September 19, 2026). Most Capterra reviews date from 2019 to 2022, when Chatfuel was a Messenger-only builder, so we weight the recent ones.

1. Billing you can't forecast. Felix B., a co-founder in consumer goods, gave Chatfuel one star on Capterra (November 4, 2024) to warn that it "will automatically increase your plan each month by default as your amount of 'subscribers' increases." Matej Serbín, in Slovakia, wrote on Trustpilot (November 3, 2025): "I paid 280$ for a yearly subscription" and was told months later he couldn't use the bot. Chatfuel has since moved to unlimited contacts and a dollar wallet, which fixes the contact creep and creates a new unknown: its wallet doc says AI replies draw from the wallet, but no page we found publishes what one AI reply costs.

2. Support and outages. Customer service is Chatfuel's lowest Capterra score. Bolor Batmunkh, in Japan, wrote on Trustpilot (September 1, 2024) that she "couldn't event get into my chatfuel dashboard for 3 days" with several Pro bots, and that the problem had repeated since July 2024. A Spanish-language Capterra reviewer, a fitness-club manager, said in 2022 that support "no es muy buena ni rápida" (isn't very good or fast).

3. It feels like a marketing tool. Linda Miller Real Estate, in the US, gave three stars on January 31, 2026: "it's good for ads, but it doesn't feel natural for human-like interactions." That matches where Chatfuel now points itself: its homepage sells a "system that proves which lead became a sale" for agencies, and a white-label SDK. A team that wanted a support agent will find the product built for funnels. Older Capterra reviewers made the same point about depth: Mukesh K., a QA engineer, wrote in 2020 that "You cannot build any complex chatbots on chatfuel."

What does the same month cost on eight platforms?

We priced one month the same way everywhere: 1,000 AI conversations in Messenger, Instagram or WhatsApp, four AI replies each, about 1,000 contacts, on monthly billing. Meta's own WhatsApp message fees are left out of every row, because they're the same wherever you send from. Prices were checked September 19, 2026, and Landbot's was updated on September 24 after it changed its plans.

The two estimate rows share one assumption. Chatfuel doesn't publish an AI rate and SendPulse passes model costs to your own OpenAI account, so we priced each reply at OpenAI's list price (4,000 input and 150 output tokens a reply) on GPT-5 mini and GPT-5. That gives $5.20 to $26 of model cost for the month. Chatfuel's $20 credit covers the small model; SendPulse adds the whole amount to its $22 plan. Both are floors: Chatfuel may mark usage up, and longer prompts cost more.

The billing units reward different things. Contact pricing (Manychat, respond.io, SendPulse) earns more as your audience grows, whether or not the AI talks to them. Chatfuel's wallet earns more with every AI reply, at a rate you can't see. Landbot and Botpress price the conversation and Macha the ticket, so a long exchange costs no more than a short one.

Manychat is the product most Chatfuel users compare first: four of the top ten results for this search put the two side by side. It automates Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, TikTok and Telegram, and it prices by active contacts. On its pricing page (manychat.com/pricing, which loads in a browser but blocks our link checker), Pro is $39 a month, or $29 billed annually, for 2,500 active contacts with Manychat AI; Essential is $14 a month billed annually for 250.

It answers complaint 1 by making the unit countable: a contact is a person, so 1,000 people talking to your bot fit inside Pro's 2,500. Capterra shows 4.6 from 72, but Trustpilot shows 2.1 from 302, with 136 one-star reviews, so read both before committing. The watch-out: past the included contacts you pay per contact, and a large Instagram audience grows the bill even when few of those people ever talk to the AI. Choose Manychat for comment-to-DM funnels and Instagram-first brands.

SendPulse

SendPulse is a marketing suite with a chatbot builder for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Viber and live chat. The free plan covers 3 bots, 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month; Pro is $12 a month at 500 subscribers, $22 at 2,000 and $48 at 5,000, or 20% less billed yearly. AI replies run through a model token you add, according to its AI models guide, so OpenAI, Claude or Gemini usage is billed by the provider.

That split is the attraction: you see the model cost on your own OpenAI invoice, which is the transparency Chatfuel's wallet lacks. Our month comes to $27 to $48 including the model. SendPulse has 4.6 from 773 reviews on Capterra and 4.5 from 2,855 on Trustpilot, both for the whole company, most of it email marketing. The watch-out is setup: you manage the API key, usage limits and model choice yourself. Choose SendPulse if you're comfortable with an OpenAI account and want the lowest bill.

respond.io

respond.io is a conversation inbox for WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and more, priced on monthly active contacts. Starter is $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) without AI Agents; Growth starts at $199 ($159) for 1,000 contacts and adds AI Agents for chat, with AI credits equal to ten times the contact tier; Advanced starts at $349 ($279).

respond.io's help center puts an AI Agent response at 2 to 5 credits. Our 4,000 replies need 8,000 to 20,000 credits against the 10,000 that Growth includes, so $199 holds only if replies average two and a half credits or less. It fixes complaint 3 for teams: assignment, a shared inbox and human handoff are the product. The watch-out is the jump from Starter to Growth to get AI at all, and WhatsApp fees are billed on top at cost. Choose respond.io if several people answer WhatsApp and the AI is one of them.

Wati

Wati is a WhatsApp-first team inbox with broadcasts and automations. For US customers, Growth is $69 a month (3 users), Pro $149 (5 users) and Business $349, or $59, $119 and $279 billed annually. The pricing page shows local prices, so a visitor from India sees rupees.

Its AI agent, Astra, is advertised as a Pro add-on "priced separately", and we found no published price, so Wati's row can't be completed. The other watch-out is messages: Wati marks up WhatsApp template messages above Meta's rates on Growth and Pro, and its help center says service messages start being charged on October 1, 2026. Capterra shows 4.6 from 207, Trustpilot 3.1 from 273. Choose Wati for broadcast-heavy WhatsApp marketing with a small team.

Landbot

Landbot builds guided bots for web and WhatsApp and publishes every overage. Landbot changed its plans after our first check: WhatsApp is now a $100-a-month add-on to Professional, which costs $110 a month ($88 billed annually), and with it the plan includes 2,500 chats and 500 AI chats; each extra AI chat is $0.10. Until September 2026 this was a separate Professional WA plan at $220 a month. Landbot's FAQ says "AI chats are tracked and billed separately from WhatsApp and Landbot chats."

At 1,000 AI conversations the month is $110 + $100 + 500 × $0.10 = $260, and you can read that sum off the pricing page before you sign, which answers complaint 1 directly. The price of that clarity is a higher floor than Chatfuel or Manychat. Capterra shows 4.4 from 70; Trustpilot has 10 reviews averaging 2.1. Choose Landbot if you want structured WhatsApp flows with AI for the open questions and a bill you can predict.

Botpress

Botpress is the builder for a support agent that follows real logic: a visual studio, code nodes, and channels including WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram through its integrations hub. Plus is $189 a month ($150 billed annually) for 250 conversations, with packs of 100 at $65 and $25 of AI usage included; Team is $939 ($750) for 1,500.

It answers complaint 3: a Botpress agent can look up an order, branch on the answer and hand off, which a lead-scoring funnel doesn't do. It's also the most expensive row here at $709, since a conversation pack costs the same whether the chat is a lead or a support case. Capterra shows 4.5 from 37. Who should stay on Chatfuel?

Stay if you're an agency running lead funnels for several clients: Chatfuel's Agency tiers include credits worth more than their fee at the larger sizes (the help center lists $2,500 of credit on the $2,050 tier), a management dashboard and a white-label SDK. Stay, too, if your AI replies fit inside Business's $20 of monthly credit; at our volume on a small model, that's the lowest bill here.

What moves when you switch from Chatfuel?

Flows. Chatfuel flows don't export to other builders. Rebuild them, and use screenshots of the old flows as the spec.

WhatsApp number. Disconnect it in Chatfuel before connecting it anywhere else, then confirm it's released: Chatfuel's help center says to check Meta Business Settings, where a released number no longer appears in the account's phone numbers. Then connect it to the new platform.

Instagram and Messenger. Disconnect the page or account in Chatfuel and reconnect it on the new platform with the same Meta login.

Wallet credit. Chatfuel's wallet doc says credits don't carry over between billing cycles, so time the switch for the end of a cycle.
