What Are the Best Botpress Alternatives in 2026? 8 Options With the Monthly Bill for Each
The best Botpress alternative depends on why you're leaving: Voiceflow and Copilot Studio cost far less at small volume, Chatbase and Landbot are simpler to build in, Rasa and Typebot can be self-hosted, and Manychat suits Instagram and WhatsApp. All eight are priced here on the same month of 1,000 support conversations, which costs $709 on Botpress.
Key takeaways
- The best Botpress alternatives are Voiceflow and Copilot Studio for a lower bill, Chatbase and Landbot for simpler builds, Rasa and Typebot for self-hosting, and Manychat for Instagram and WhatsApp.
- Botpress bills $709 a month for 1,000 conversations under its Plus plan plus eight overage packs, more than any alternative compared at that volume except Tidio Lyro's $700.

Why do teams leave Botpress?
Botpress rates well where it's reviewed: 4.5 from 37 reviews on Capterra and 4.5 from 512 on G2, both checked September 19, 2026. Its Trustpilot profile has no reviews, and Reddit didn't load for us. So the complaints come from Capterra and from Botpress's own pricing FAQ, and most of the Capterra reviews date from 2024 or earlier. Read them as the recurring themes, not as the current product.
1. The learning curve. Capterra's ease-of-use score for Botpress is 4.1, the lowest of its sub-scores. Kamsi O., at a religious institution with 11 to 50 staff, wrote that "Botpress has a steep learning curve, especially for beginners and non-technical users" (February 15, 2024). A founder in logistics, Wisdom B., rated it 4 stars and still said "setting up advanced Features can be a bit technical for beginners" (October 30, 2025).
2. Price at small volume. Since May 14, 2026, Botpress bills per conversation: Plus is $189 a month (or $150 billed annually) for 250, and extra conversations cost $65 per 100 (rechecked on the pricing page September 24, 2026). That's 65 cents a conversation on Plus, before any AI spend beyond the $25 included. The free tier shrank too. Boneficious M., a logistics founder, wrote on March 6, 2026 that "The small free tier doesn't allow you to do anything of any use"; the pricing page now shows the Free plan at 25 conversations.
3. Billing rules that count more than you expect. Botpress's pricing FAQ says a conversation is any exchange with two user messages in a month, that one spanning two months counts twice, and that "emulator conversations" count the same as customers. Test chats during a build month eat into the quota you paid for. The FAQ also says the automatic top-up of AI spend can't be turned off.
4. Bugs and knowledge-base drift. Varun T., an agency owner, wrote "Sometimes it gets buggy" (February 13, 2024). Kodey C., in education, found that "Once we added a second knowledge base, the results of the chat changed." An AI engineer in e-learning wrote in February 2024 that the "live chat and dashboard for managing the bot aren't the best"; Botpress has since added Botpress Desk and a human handoff flow, so check the current version before you leave over this one.
What does the same month cost on nine platforms?
To compare different billing units (conversations, credits, messages, contacts, chats), we priced one month the same way on every platform: 1,000 support conversations with four customer messages and four AI replies each, on monthly billing, using the cheapest combination each vendor lets you buy. The assumptions are ours; the prices are each vendor's, checked September 19, 2026. Botpress, Typebot, Rasa, Tidio, Chatbase and Landbot were rechecked September 24, 2026.
| Platform | Billing unit | Cheapest setup for the month | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Botpress | Conversations, packs of 100 | Plus $189 + 8 packs at $65 | $709 |
| Voiceflow | Plan fee returned as credit; $0.005 per customer message plus model tokens | Pro; usage comes to $46.60, under the $60 fee | $60 ($82 on Claude Sonnet 4.6) |
| Microsoft Copilot Studio | Copilot Credits, $0.01 each pay-as-you-go | 8,000 credits (4 generative answers per chat) | $80 ($130 with one agent action per chat) |
| Chatbase | Credits per reply, 1 to 6 by model | Standard (4,000 credits) on Auto | $150 ($470 on Claude 4.6 Sonnet) |
| Landbot | Chats, plus AI chats beyond an allowance | Starter $45 + 900 AI chats at €0.10 (+ 500 extra chats at €0.05 if AI chats also count as chats), euro overage counted at par | $135 to $160 |
| Typebot | Chats (one per discussion) | Starter, 2,000 chats included | $39 plus your OpenAI bill |
| Manychat | Active contacts | Pro, 2,500 contacts included | $39 |
| Rasa | Free up to 1,000 external conversations | Developer Edition | $0 license plus hosting and model costs |
| Tidio Lyro | Lyro conversations | 1,000 Lyro conversations | $700 |
Botpress and Tidio are the two most expensive rows because both bill per conversation at a rate built for the full product, including the parts you don't use at this volume. Per-conversation pricing has one real advantage: a long, eight-turn conversation costs the same as a two-turn one, so the bill doesn't grow when customers are chatty or the model is heavy. Per-message and per-credit tools (Voiceflow, Copilot Studio, Chatbase) cost a fraction at 1,000 conversations, and their bill moves with every reply and every model choice. Botpress earns the same whether the agent resolves the question or not; so do most rows here.
What are the eight best Botpress alternatives?
Voiceflow
Voiceflow is the closest like-for-like switch: a visual builder for chat and voice agents, with playbooks, workflows and API tools. Its public pricing page shows no figures. The in-app plans screen does: Pro is $60 a month ($54 billed annually) and Business $150 ($135), and each plan fee comes back as the same amount of usage credit. Usage is half a cent per customer message plus model tokens at Voiceflow's credits pricing table.
It solves complaint 2. In a test conversation in our own Voiceflow account on September 19, 2026, one agent reply on the default Core 4.2 model cost $0.0072, so our 1,000-conversation month uses $46.60 of credit and the $60 Pro fee covers it. The watch-outs: human chat hand-off is marked Enterprise-only in the in-app plan table, extra editor seats cost money, and Vendr's buyer data puts the median Enterprise contract at $258,625 a year. G2 shows 4.6 from 113 reviews. Choose Voiceflow if you want Botpress's builder depth at a lower small-volume bill and don't need a human inbox on the same plan.
Chatbase
Chatbase is the answer to complaint 1. You point it at your website and files, write instructions, and embed a widget, with no flows to draw. Plans run from Hobby at $40 a month (700 message credits) to Standard at $150 (4,000) and Pro at $500 (15,000), and a reply costs 1 to 6 credits depending on the model.
On the 1-credit Auto model our month fits Standard at $150; on Claude 4.6 Sonnet (3 credits) it's $470. That spread is the watch-out: Chatbase bills per reply, weighted by model, so the vendor earns more when your agent uses a heavier model or takes more steps. Reviews are split, with Trustpilot at 3.9 from 65 and a cluster of one-star reviews about billing and support. Choose Chatbase if a website agent that answers from your content is the whole job. Our Chatbase alternatives list covers the reverse move.
Microsoft Copilot Studio
Copilot Studio is the pick for teams already inside Microsoft 365 and Azure. It bills in Copilot Credits: $0.01 each on the Azure pay-as-you-go meter, or $200 a month for a pack of 25,000. Microsoft's billing rates charge 1 credit for a classic (scripted) answer, 2 for a generative answer and 5 for an agent action.
Four generative answers per conversation is 8,000 credits, or $80 for our month; add one agent action per conversation and it's $130. Copilot Studio has the scale and security story Botpress's Enterprise plan sells, and it runs a tenant you already administer. The watch-outs: you need an Azure subscription, the credit meter is less intuitive than a conversation count, and on prepaid capacity Microsoft disables agents once usage reaches 125% of what you bought. Gartner Peer Insights shows 4.3 from 89 ratings. Choose it if your IT team already runs Power Platform.
Rasa
Rasa is the self-hosted, developer-first option. Its pricing page offers a free Developer Edition license for "One bot per company, with up to 1000 external conversations/month or 100 internal conversations/month", usable in production. Two paid plans are sold by quote: Business pairs Rasa Pro with Rasa Studio (a no-code builder) and adds SSO and role-based access, and Enterprise adds premium support. The older open-source framework remains on GitHub under Apache-2.0.
At exactly 1,000 conversations a month the license costs nothing, but you pay for the servers and the model calls, and a developer's time to build in Python and YAML. Rasa doesn't publish a Business or Enterprise price, and we found no listing by Rasa on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Marketplace (only third-party server images of the open-source version) and no price data on Vendr. Choose Rasa if you need the agent and its data on your own infrastructure and have engineers to run it. Skip it if nobody on the team writes code.
Typebot
Typebot is a visual chat-form builder that also answers with AI. Free gives 200 chats a month, Starter is $39 for 2,000 chats and two seats (extra chats $10 per 500), and Pro is $89 for 10,000 chats with WhatsApp and custom domains. Typebot's FAQ counts one chat per discussion regardless of how many messages it contains, so an eight-turn conversation is one chat.
The AI part runs through blocks such as its OpenAI block, which uses credentials you add to your workspace, so model costs land on your OpenAI bill, not Typebot's. That's why the $39 row has a plus sign. Typebot publishes its source under the FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0 license and documents self-hosting, which answers the "open-source Botpress alternative" search. It's lightly reviewed: Capterra 4.6 from 26, Trustpilot 3 reviews. Choose Typebot for lead capture and guided flows with some AI answers, not for a knowledge-heavy support agent.
Landbot
Landbot is a no-code builder for web and WhatsApp that its pricing page calls predictable, and it publishes every overage. Monthly, Starter is $45 with 500 chats and 100 AI chats; Professional is $110 with 2,500 chats and 300 AI chats, adds HubSpot and webhooks and removes branding. Each extra chat costs €0.05, and each AI chat beyond the allowance €0.10; Landbot shows those overage rates only in euros.
If every one of our 1,000 conversations uses AI, Starter comes to $45 + 900 × €0.10, or about $135 if you count the euro rate at par (a little more at today's exchange rate). Landbot's FAQ says AI chats are "tracked and billed separately" from its other chats; if they also count against the 500-chat allowance, add $25 for $160. Professional comes to $180 either way. The AI allowance is the watch-out: Landbot's small AI quotas mean an AI-first support agent pays the €0.10 rate on most chats. Capterra shows 4.4 from 70, Trustpilot 2.1 from 10. Choose Landbot if your agent is mostly guided flows with AI for the open questions, especially on WhatsApp.
Manychat
Manychat is built for Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and TikTok automation, and it prices by active contacts. Its pricing page (manychat.com/pricing, which loads in a browser but returns 403 to our link checker) lists Pro at $39 a month, or $29 billed annually, for 2,500 active contacts, with Manychat AI; Essential is $14 billed annually for 250.
A contact is a person, not a conversation, so a customer who messages ten times is one contact, and the cost is easy to forecast before launch. At our volume Manychat is $39. The watch-out is fit: it's a marketing and DM tool, not a website support agent with a knowledge base and tickets. Ratings diverge sharply: Capterra 4.6 from 72, Trustpilot 2.1 from 302 with 136 one-star reviews. Choose Manychat if your conversations start in Instagram comments and DMs.
Tidio Lyro
Tidio combines live chat, a help desk inbox and the Lyro AI agent for small businesses. Lyro starts at $39 a month for 50 conversations on monthly billing ($32.50 billed annually), and the self-serve calculator runs to 1,000 conversations for $700 a month; Premium starts at 3,000 Lyro conversations with a guaranteed 50% resolution rate, by quote.
Tidio fixes the old live-chat complaint by making the human inbox the core product, and like Botpress it bills per conversation however many replies Lyro sends. It's no cheaper than Botpress at our volume ($700 against $709), so switch for the inbox, not the price. G2 shows 4.6 from 1,962 reviews and Capterra 4.7 from 590. Choose Tidio if you run a small store and want chat, handoff and AI in one subscription.
Who should stay on Botpress?
Stay if you already have flows, code nodes and integrations working, because none of that ports (see below). Stay if you need its combination of a visual builder, custom code and many channels at an Enterprise level; only Voiceflow and Copilot Studio match that depth here, and each brings its own trade. And stay if your workspace predates May 14, 2026: Botpress's pricing announcement says "Existing workspaces will keep our previous pricing", so the figures on this page may not be yours.
Above about 1,500 conversations a month the picture changes. Team at $939 includes 1,500 conversations with packs at $50 per 100, unlimited seats and $150 of AI usage, and at that volume the per-conversation unit starts working in your favor, since long conversations cost no more than short ones.
What moves when you switch from Botpress, and what doesn't?
The bot file. Botpress Studio exports a whole bot as a .bpz file, including settings, agents and knowledge bases, according to its import and export docs. That file only imports back into Botpress. No platform on this list reads it.
Knowledge. Re-add your source documents and URLs on the new platform. Tables in Botpress need exporting separately.
Flows and code. Every flow, card, hook and code node is rebuilt by hand. Budget for this: it's the largest part of any Botpress migration.
Conversation history. Botpress documents exporting raw conversations through its API. Do it before you cancel.
Channels. WhatsApp, Messenger and Slack connections are re-authorized on the new platform; the accounts and numbers themselves belong to you.
Where does Macha fit?
Macha isn't a bot builder, so it's not one of the eight. It's an AI agent layer that works inside the help desk you already run, on Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom. If you picked Botpress to build a support agent and found yourself maintaining flows, Macha's agents are written in plain English, act inside the ticket, and are built, tested and monitored by the Macha team on every plan. Pricing is per ticket: one thread with one person is one charge however many replies it takes, from $299 a month for 750 tickets (about $0.40 a ticket), so a 1,000-ticket month sits on the $599 tier for 1,500. It's the wrong fit if you have no help desk or need a lead-capture bot on Instagram. See Macha's pricing, or read how AI agents for customer service fit together.
How we researched this
On September 19, 2026 we checked the pricing page of every platform here in a browser and saved a screenshot of each, read Botpress's Capterra reviews and its pricing FAQ, and read the pages ranking for "botpress alternatives". G2 didn't load for Botpress in our browser that day, so its G2 figure comes from our check earlier the same day for our chatbot roundup, and we quote no G2 reviews. Reddit didn't load at all. We checked AWS Marketplace for every vendor and Azure and Google Cloud for Rasa, which has no published Enterprise price. We created no vendor accounts for this post; the Voiceflow reply cost comes from a test conversation we ran in our existing Voiceflow account the same day, and the Botpress interface image is from Botpress's docs.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Botpress alternative? For a similar builder at a lower small-volume bill, Voiceflow ($60 for our 1,000-conversation month against Botpress's $709). For a simpler website agent, Chatbase. For Microsoft shops, Copilot Studio. For self-hosting, Rasa. For Instagram and WhatsApp marketing, Manychat.
Is Botpress completely free? No. The Free plan gives 25 conversations a month with no top-ups, which covers testing. Paid plans start at $189 a month (Plus, billed monthly) or $150 billed annually, for 250 conversations.
Is there a free Botpress alternative? Rasa's Developer Edition is free for one bot and up to 1,000 external conversations a month, but you host it. Typebot's free plan gives 200 chats and Landbot's 100 (without AI). Voiceflow's free plan includes a one-time $1 of usage credit, enough to build and test.
What is the best open-source Botpress alternative? Rasa, whose open-source framework is Apache-2.0 on GitHub, and Typebot, whose source is published under FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0 with self-hosting docs. Botpress's own main repository on GitHub is MIT-licensed, but the product it sells is the cloud platform.
Botpress vs Voiceflow: which is cheaper? At 1,000 conversations a month, Voiceflow on its default model is about $60 and Botpress $709 in our model. Above a few thousand chats, Voiceflow's per-message usage grows while Botpress's pack price per conversation falls on Team, so price your own volume on both.
What counts as a conversation in Botpress? Any exchange with at least two end-user messages in the billing month. One that spans two months counts in both, separate anonymous sessions count separately, test conversations in the emulator count, and AI-only and human-handled conversations cost the same.
Can I export my Botpress bot to another platform? You can export it as a .bpz file, but only Botpress imports that format. On any other platform you re-add knowledge sources and rebuild flows and integrations by hand.
What are the 3 best AI chatbots for customer support? It depends on where the support happens. For a website-only agent, Chatbase and Voiceflow sit at opposite ends of setup effort. For a small store that wants chat and an inbox, Tidio. For tickets in a help desk, an agent layer like Macha that works inside it.
If your support already runs through Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom, start with $50 of free Macha usage, no card needed.
