The best Chatbase alternative depends on why you're leaving: Macha if your support runs in a help desk and you want the agent set up and run for you, Chatling and Botsonic for the same 1,000-conversation month at under a third of Chatbase's $150, and CustomGPT.ai, Botpress, Tidio, Fin and eesel AI for knowledge-base, flow, live-chat and help-desk problems. All ten are priced on that same month and matched to the complaints in Chatbase's reviews.

Key takeaways

  • Macha ranks first for teams whose support runs in a help desk: the Macha team builds, tests and runs the agent on the trial and every plan, from $299 a month for 750 tickets, about $0.40 a ticket including a dedicated success manager.
  • Chatling ($45) and Botsonic ($44) cover a 1,000-conversation month for under a third of the $150 Chatbase charges on its Standard plan.
  • Chatbase spends 1 to 5 credits per AI reply depending on the model, so a Claude 4.6 Sonnet reply costs 11.25 cents while a 1-credit Auto reply costs 3.75 cents on Standard.
  • Fin charges $0.99 per outcome with a 50-outcome monthly minimum only when it runs on a help desk other than Intercom, while eesel AI sells credit plans from $299 a month for 500, at one credit per ticket or chat however many messages it takes.
  • Chatbase holds a 3.9 Trustpilot rating from 65 reviews, split between 36 five-star and 19 one-star reviews, with complaints centered on billing, slow support and confidently wrong answers.
What's the Best Chatbase Alternative? 10 Options Priced for 2026

The best Chatbase alternative for a support team that works in a help desk is Macha: the Macha team builds the agent on your existing help desk and runs it for you, from $299 a month for 750 tickets, about $0.40 a ticket. For a cheaper website agent, Chatling or Botsonic run a 1,000-conversation month for $45 and $44 against $150 on Chatbase Standard. For a large knowledge base pick CustomGPT.ai, for flows Botpress, and for a help desk agent you configure yourself Fin or eesel AI.

Which Chatbase alternative fits your reason for leaving?

Why do people leave Chatbase?

We read the 20 most recent reviews and all 21 one- and two-star reviews on Chatbase's Trustpilot page, and the 25 most helpful on its Capterra page on September 19, 2026. Trustpilot shows 3.9 from 65 reviews, split sharply: 36 five-star and 19 one-star, with little in between. Capterra shows 4.3 from 73, with ease of use at 4.6 and customer service at 3.8. Most Capterra reviews date from 2023, so we weight the recent Trustpilot ones more heavily. Five complaints recur.

Chatbase homepage: conversational agents for customer experience across chat, email and voice
Chatbase homepage: conversational agents for customer experience across chat, email and voice

1. Billing and cancellation. The sharpest recent review is about money after leaving. David T., in Israel, wrote on September 9, 2026 that he was "Charged three times after I explicitly told them to close my account", $42 each time, and that support told him "I was required to cancel manually through Workspace Settings > Plans." An email saying "close my account" isn't a cancellation at Chatbase; the plan page is.

2. Slow support. A Capterra customer-service score 0.8 below ease of use tells the same story as the reviews. Brian, in the US, titled his May 12, 2026 review "Where's the support" after Chatbase's own agent offered to book a demo and then errored; Chatbase replied publicly six weeks later, offering to set up the demo if he emailed support. Rik H., in IT services, wrote on Capterra in 2023, in a review he still rated four stars: "Don't expect service or support anytime soon."

3. Plan changes. Long-time customers object to what the current plans took away. Andrés La Torre, in Spain, a user for more than three years, wrote on April 1, 2026: "Usage costs have tripled and features from the plans have disappeared." Chatbase answered him the same day: prices rose with the platform's capabilities, and it offered to walk him through what's available now. A second Spanish reviewer, on March 31, 2026, said Chatbase removes "features you'd paid for because they want to charge more per customer." Our Chatbase guide records the same direction from the pricing page: Hobby moved API access up to Standard, and every plan now includes exactly one agent, with more at $25 each.

4. Wrong answers stated confidently. This is the retrieval problem every tool here shares, but Chatbase reviewers name it. Rik H. again: "the bot WILL generate a totally wrong answer with that greatest of eloquence and confidence." Isaiah A., at a nonprofit, wrote in a 2023 four-star review that "It sometimes makes up URLs with our domain." Mike C., in the US, put it in two words on September 1, 2026: "Often incorrect".

5. Limits that arrive early. A UK buyer on the $150 Standard plan wrote on June 1, 2026 that he "Added less than 1MB of training data against the 10MB limit and it immediately told me I was over my training limits." On Capterra, Peter L., an AI prompt engineer, called the price "a bit too steep for the credits that are allocated for each plan" (September 13, 2023).

The five-star reviews are specific too. Johan Radcliffe, in South Africa, gave five stars on September 16, 2026 because "users are getting the correct information without having to rely on our website UX." The one-star reviews are mostly about billing and support, not about whether the agent answers.

What does Chatbase cost in 2026, and what does its credit model reward?

Chatbase charges a flat plan fee for a monthly pool of message credits: Free with 50, Hobby at $40 with 700, Standard at $150 with 4,000 and Pro at $500 with 15,000, or 20% less billed yearly. Every AI reply spends 1 to 5 credits on the models Chatbase recommends, and auto-recharge adds credits at $40 per 1,000 once the pool runs out, as Chatbase's pricing page showed on September 19, 2026 and again on September 24.

Chatbase pricing, Sep 19 2026: Free $0, Hobby $40, Standard $150, Pro $500 a month, Enterprise on request
Chatbase pricing, Sep 19 2026: Free $0, Hobby $40, Standard $150, Pro $500 a month, Enterprise on request

The unit is the reply, weighted by model. On Standard a credit costs 3.75 cents, so a 1-credit reply on Chatbase's Auto router costs 3.75 cents and a Claude 4.6 Sonnet reply at 3 credits costs 11.25 cents. The vendor earns more when your agent uses a heavier model, takes more steps before it answers (an action is a second model call), or talks longer. It doesn't earn more when the agent resolves the question. That's why complaint 5 keeps appearing: the plan is sized in replies, and replies are the one number a support team can't forecast.

Chatbase has also grown past the website bubble. Standard now includes a built-in helpdesk, voice, telephony and "advanced integrations" such as Zendesk, where the Zendesk integration docs say the agent can reply to tickets or draft replies for a human. Several ranking lists still say Chatbase has no live chat or help desk handoff. That's out of date, and it changes who should switch.

What does a 1,000-conversation month cost on each platform?

To compare prices that use different units (replies, credits, messages, queries, conversations, outcomes), we priced one month the same way on every platform: 1,000 website conversations with three AI replies each, so 3,000 replies, on monthly billing. For each vendor we took the cheapest combination its page lets you buy, on the model it counts at 1x. Where a vendor charges more for a premium model, we priced that too. These are our assumptions and our arithmetic; swap in your own volume.

Bar chart of one month at 1,000 conversations: from $44 on Botsonic to $709 on Botpress; Chatbase $150 to $350

The five platforms that bill per reply or per message (Chatbase and the four cheaper clones) cost $44 to $150 on their 1x model, and their bill moves with the model you pick and how chatty the agent is. The six that bill per ticket, conversation, query or outcome (Macha, eesel AI, CustomGPT.ai, Fin, Tidio and Botpress) cost $474 to $709, and each moves with a different count: tickets on Macha, conversations on eesel, Tidio and Botpress, questions asked on CustomGPT.ai, and resolved conversations on Fin. Only Botpress passes model cost through, as AI usage past its included allowance, and Macha's $599 also pays for the Macha team to build and run the agent. On the premium models in the table, the per-reply tools still stay under $400 (the highest is SiteGPT at $365 on GPT-4.1). Their bill still rises with every extra reply a conversation takes.

Leave out anything this table doesn't carry: human seats, branding removal ($35 to $99 a month on the builders that charge it) and any help desk subscription. Prices checked September 19, 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page and rechecked September 24; only Tidio's Lyro entry price and the scope of Fin's minimum needed correcting.

What are the ten best Chatbase alternatives?

We make Macha and rank it first for teams whose support runs in a help desk and who want the agent set up and run for them. The other nine follow, from website agents much like Chatbase to tools built for flows, live chat and help desks.

Macha

Macha is an AI agent layer that runs inside the help desk your team already uses, on Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom, and it's the done-for-you option on this list. If what drives you off Chatbase is that real support happens in tickets, you want an AI agent for customer service that reads and acts in the ticket itself. Pricing is per ticket: one thread with one person is one charge however many replies it takes, from $299 a month for 750 tickets, about $0.40 a ticket, which includes setup and a dedicated success manager who handles your changes (new categories, instruction edits, new tools). The model the agent runs on doesn't change the price. The trial is $50 of free usage, about 125 tickets, with no card.

The fix it offers is complaint 4, plus the setup work that the self-serve tools here leave to you. Your part is connecting your help desk and the tools your answers come from, which takes about 15 minutes. The Macha team then analyzes about a month of your past tickets, builds the knowledge base and the agent, tests it on a sample of those tickets, and runs it in safe mode, with drafts as internal notes in your help desk, so nothing reaches a customer until the drafts are right and you say so. It goes live in under a week, on the trial and every plan. Against the other help desk agent on this page: $299 gets you 750 tickets on Macha and 500 on eesel, $0.40 a ticket against $0.60, with setup done for you included.

The watch-outs: there's no free plan, the trial is $50 of usage. Macha works on top of a help desk (Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom), not as a standalone website chat widget, so if you have no help desk and just want answers on your website, the builders below do that for less. Our 1,000-conversation month sits on the $599 tier for 1,500 tickets.

Choose Macha if your support runs in a help desk and you want the agent built, tested and run for you rather than configured yourself. See Macha's pricing for the tiers.

SiteGPT

SiteGPT is the closest copy of Chatbase's product: train an agent on your site and files, embed it, capture leads. What differs is the unit. Starter is $59 a month ($39 billed yearly) for up to 4,000 GPT-4.1-mini messages or 400 GPT-4.1 messages, Growth is $129 for 10,000 and Scale $429 for 40,000, and SiteGPT counts one message as a question plus its reply. Extra messages come in packs of 5,000 for $59 a month.

SiteGPT plans in the yearly view, Sep 19 2026: Starter $39 a month billed $468, Growth $79, up to 4k messages
SiteGPT plans in the yearly view, Sep 19 2026: Starter $39 a month billed $468, Growth $79, up to 4k messages

The fix it offers is complaint 5. With two models and a stated 10-to-1 exchange rate between them, you can read your monthly capacity off the pricing page, which Chatbase's five-rate, eight-model credit table doesn't allow. The watch-outs: the free trial needs a card, a Zendesk agent that answers inside Zendesk Messaging is listed only on the $429 Scale plan, and we found no Trustpilot or Capterra profile. The page shows "Rated 4.8/5 on G2," which G2 confirms: 4.8 out of 5 from 45 reviews, checked September 19, 2026.

Choose SiteGPT if you want Chatbase's product with a message count you can predict. Skip it if you want Claude or Gemini models. Our SiteGPT guide has the rest.

Chatling

Chatling charges by the credit, and the model sets how many credits a reply spends. There's a Free plan with 200 AI credits, Starter at $25 with 1,750 ($21 billed yearly), Growth at $75 with 6,000 and Scale at $295 with 35,000, plus extra credits at $10 per 1,000. On GPT-4.1 Mini or Claude Haiku 4.5, one reply is one credit, so our 3,000-reply month costs $45. Its four half-credit models (Gemini 2.5 Flash, DeepSeek V3.2, Grok 4.1 Fast and Mistral Small 4) fit the same month into Starter's 1,750 credits for $25, the lowest cost for our month on this page.

Chatling pricing, Sep 19 2026: Free $0 with 200 AI credits, Starter $25, Growth $75, Scale $295 a month
Chatling pricing, Sep 19 2026: Free $0 with 200 AI credits, Starter $25, Growth $75, Scale $295 a month

It also has workflows per agent (5 on Starter, 10 on Growth), live chat and canned responses, which a pure answer bot lacks. The watch-out is the same mechanism Chatbase uses, stretched further: Chatling's FAQ lists Claude Sonnet 4.6 at 4 credits and Claude Opus 5 at 25, so the model dropdown moves the bill even more than it does on Chatbase. Removing the "Powered by Chatling" badge costs $35 a month below Scale. Trustpilot shows 4.3 from 8 reviews, too few to lean on.

Choose Chatling if price is the reason you're leaving and a small model answers your questions well. The AI Overview for this search names it as the budget pick, and at our volume it's $105 a month under Chatbase.

DocsBot

DocsBot is built for documentation: Personal at $49 a month with 5,000 AI credits and 5,000 source pages, Standard at $149 with 15,000 credits and three bots, Business at $499 with 60,000. Annual billing gives two months free, and 5,000 more credits cost $49. The page says usage "starts at 1x per message and may use more for larger models and AI actions."

DocsBot plans, monthly view: Free $0, Personal $49, Standard $149 and Business $499, with AI credit limits
DocsBot plans, monthly view: Free $0, Personal $49, Standard $149 and Business $499, with AI credit limits

Its strength is the source-page budget: a page is about 5,000 characters of cleaned text, so Personal holds more than twice the text of Chatbase's 10 MB Hobby plan for $9 more. Standard adds escalation ticket creation, Stripe billing actions and a Help Scout integration. Two watch-outs. Like Chatbase, the bot stops answering at the credit limit unless you turn on auto-add. And the per-model multipliers aren't published, so the premium-model column above stays empty. We found no Trustpilot or Capterra listing.

Choose DocsBot if your agent answers product documentation and you care more about how much it can read than how many models it offers. Our DocsBot guide covers setup.

Botsonic

Botsonic, from Writesonic, is the cheapest here at our volume on a 1x model: Starter at $19 a month ($16 yearly) with 1,000 messages on GPT-4o mini, Professional at $49 with 3,000 and GPT-4o, and Advanced at $299 with 12,000. Two thousand extra messages cost $25 a month, which is how Starter plus one add-on covers our month for $44.

Botsonic pricing: Starter $16, Professional $41, Advanced $249 a month billed annually; $19, $49, $299 monthly
Botsonic pricing: Starter $16, Professional $41, Advanced $249 a month billed annually; $19, $49, $299 monthly

Reviews are the strongest in this group: Capterra shows 4.8 from 81, and Writesonic as a whole has 4.6 from 5,764 on Trustpilot (that's the whole company, not the chatbot). Ticket and live-agent handoff to Zendesk is a $199-a-month add-on, branding removal $49 and API access $49 below Advanced, so a team that needs a human handoff pays more for it than for the plan.

Choose Botsonic if you're a small site paying Chatbase for Hobby or Standard mainly for website answers. Skip it if handoff to a help desk is a must. Our Botsonic guide has the detail.

CustomGPT.ai

CustomGPT.ai sells capacity for large knowledge bases. Standard is $99 a month ($89 yearly) with 1,000 queries, 10 agents and 60 million words of storage; Premium is $499 ($449) with 5,000 queries, 25 agents and 300 million words, plus website auto-sync and branding removal. Extra queries come 2,500 at a time for $375 a month.

CustomGPT.ai pricing: Standard $99 with 1,000 queries, Premium $499 with 5,000 queries, Enterprise custom
CustomGPT.ai pricing: Standard $99 with 1,000 queries, Premium $499 with 5,000 queries, Enterprise custom

This is the answer to complaints 4 and 5 when the knowledge base is big. Storage is counted in tens of millions of words, while Chatbase counts training content in megabytes of extracted text. CustomGPT.ai markets citation-backed, anti-hallucination answers, a vendor claim we didn't test. The watch-out is price per answer: 9.9 cents a query on Standard and 15 cents in an add-on pack. That's 15.8 cents a reply in our month, more than any credit or message plan on its 1x model (Fin, Tidio and Botpress cost more per reply, billed by outcome or conversation). Trustpilot shows 4.3 from 12 reviews.

Choose CustomGPT.ai if your agent answers from thousands of documents and one wrong answer costs more than the query. Our CustomGPT.ai guide covers the builder.

Tidio Lyro

Tidio is a live chat and help desk tool for small businesses, and Lyro is its AI agent. Lyro on its own starts at $39 a month for 50 conversations on monthly billing, or $32.50 billed yearly, and the self-serve calculator runs to 1,000 for $700 on monthly billing. Above that, Plus starts at $300 a month plus usage, and Premium starts at 3,000 Lyro conversations with a guaranteed 50% resolution rate, by quote.

Tidio pricing: choose Lyro AI Agent plus Tidio Help Desk, or Lyro AI Agent only for Zendesk or another help desk
Tidio pricing: choose Lyro AI Agent plus Tidio Help Desk, or Lyro AI Agent only for Zendesk or another help desk

Tidio counts differently from Chatbase. A Lyro conversation is any conversation with at least one AI reply, and "Even if Lyro replies a dozen times or more", it's still one. So a long or multi-step conversation costs the same as a short one, the reverse of Chatbase's incentive. Ratings are broad: G2 4.6 from 1,962 and Capterra 4.7 from 590, while Trustpilot is 3.7 from 225. On G2 the loudest con tags are "Expensive" and "Cost", and at 70 cents a conversation in our model, that's fair.

Choose Tidio if you run a small online store and want live chat, an inbox and an AI agent in one subscription. Skip it above 1,000 AI conversations a month unless you're ready for a usage-billed or quoted plan. Our Tidio Lyro explainer has the plan detail.

Botpress

Botpress is the builder's option: a visual studio, code where you want it, and deployment to web, WhatsApp, Messenger, Slack and more. Plus costs $189 a month ($150 billed annually) with 250 conversations, and extra conversations come in packs of 100 for $65; Team is $939 ($750) with 1,500 and packs at $50. Each plan includes AI usage ($25 on Plus, $150 on Team), billed at cost beyond that.

Botpress pricing, annual view: Plus $150 a month for 250 conversations, Team $750 for 1,500, packs of 100
Botpress pricing, annual view: Plus $150 a month for 250 conversations, Team $750 for 1,500, packs of 100

Botpress fixes Andrés La Torre's complaint that Chatbase "is unable to manage an appointment, send an email or process a booking request": that's what flows and code nodes are for. Botpress counts a conversation once the customer sends two messages, and its pricing FAQ says test conversations in the emulator count too. G2 shows 4.5 from 512 reviews and Capterra 4.5 from 37. The watch-out is cost at small volume ($709 for our month, the highest in the table) and the fact that pricing changed on May 14, 2026, so older reviews quote plans that no longer exist.

Choose Botpress if someone on your team will build and maintain flows. Our Botpress guide covers the builders.

Fin

Fin is Intercom's AI agent, now owned by Salesforce, which completed the acquisition on September 10, 2026. It costs $0.99 per outcome, on Intercom or on your current help desk; the 50-outcome monthly minimum applies only when Fin runs on a help desk other than Intercom. On Intercom you also pay for seats: Essential is $29 a seat billed annually (Intercom has also shown $19 in a pricing test), Advanced $85 and Expert $132. Fin defines an outcome as: "No further help is requested after Fin's last answer." It also bills when it completes a handoff you configured.

Fin pricing, Sep 19 2026: $0.99 per outcome with your current helpdesk, 50 outcomes per month minimum
Fin pricing, Sep 19 2026: $0.99 per outcome with your current helpdesk, 50 outcomes per month minimum

Outcome pricing is the most direct reply to complaint 4: a conversation where Fin fails and the customer asks for more help isn't billed. At a 50% outcome rate our month is $495, and the figure moves with your resolution rate, not your traffic. G2 shows Fin at 4.5 from 3,912 reviews. Two watch-outs. The "Fin with your current helpdesk" option routes through sales, not a signup button. And the vendor earns more as it resolves more, which is aligned with you only as long as "resolved" means the customer got what they needed.

Choose Fin if you run support in Intercom or a large help desk and want to pay only for answers that end the conversation. Our Fin guide covers setup and limits.

eesel AI

eesel AI sells monthly credit plans from $299 for 500 credits up to $1,749 for 5,000, and "A ticket or chat is 1 credit, however long." There's no platform fee and no seat fee, and Enterprise is priced by quote. New accounts get 100 free credits without a card. It works inside help desks (Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, HubSpot, Gorgias, Help Scout, Front and Salesforce are on its integrations page) and as a website chat widget.

eesel AI's earlier pricing calculator (September 2026): $0.40 per ticket, since replaced by monthly credit plans from $299 for 500 credits
eesel AI's earlier pricing calculator (September 2026): $0.40 per ticket, since replaced by monthly credit plans from $299 for 500 credits

eesel answers complaint 5 with a unit that ignores reply count and model, so our month fits its 1,000-credit plan at $499, about $0.50 a conversation. Paying a year up front gets two months free. The watch-outs: agents pause when the month's credits run out unless you turn on overage at $0.80 a credit, SSO is a $199-a-month add-on, and HIPAA needs the quote-only Enterprise plan. We found one Trustpilot review, too few to count. eesel competes with Macha, and it also wrote a Chatbase alternatives list that ranks on page one and puts itself first.

Choose eesel if you want per-conversation pricing and you'll configure the agent yourself. Our eesel AI guide has the rest.

Also considered: ChatBot.com. Two page-one lists for this search include it. It's a live chat suite priced by the seat, with AI capped by resolutions: Essential is $25 a user a month with 10 and Growth $99 a user with 200, and 50 more cost $49.50, about 99 cents each, on its pricing page on September 19, 2026. A resolution is when "the AI directly solved a customer question", however many questions the chat holds. With half of our 1,000 conversations resolved, most of the bill would be resolution packs, so it isn't one of the ten. Our ChatBot.com guide covers the plans.

Who should stay on Chatbase?

Stay if your agent lives on your website, a 1-credit model answers well, and your volume fits a plan. At 3.75 cents a reply on Standard with Auto, Chatbase is cheaper than every per-conversation option in the table. Stay, too, if you already use its newer pieces: the built-in helpdesk, Zendesk replies, voice on Standard, or actions you've built against Stripe or Calendly. None of that moves for free.

Before switching over price alone, try the cheaper fix. Check which model each agent runs, since moving from a 3-credit model to Auto cuts the reply cost by two thirds, and turn on auto-recharge so the agent doesn't stop with "This AI Agent is currently unavailable" in the last week of the month. Recharge credits cost $40 per 1,000 but don't expire.

What moves when you switch from Chatbase?

Knowledge. Your sources are yours: re-crawl the same URLs and re-upload the same files on the new platform. Q&A pairs and "revised answers" have to be recreated, so export or copy them first.

Instructions. Copy the system prompt, then retest it. The same prompt on a different model and retrieval setup answers differently, so test it before launch.

Actions and integrations. Custom actions, Stripe, Calendly, Shopify and help desk connections are rebuilt from scratch and re-authorized. No platform here imports Chatbase actions.

Conversation history. Chatbase's API has an export conversations endpoint that returns every conversation with full message history. API access starts on Standard, so export before you downgrade.

Phone numbers. If you connected your own Twilio number or a SIP trunk, as Chatbase's Twilio docs describe, the number stays in your Twilio account and can be pointed at the new platform.

The widget. Swapping the embed script is minutes of work. Then cancel on Chatbase's Workspace Settings > Plans page, since review 1 shows an email to support doesn't cancel the subscription.

Chatbase Helpdesk inbox from its docs: tickets with status, requester, assignee and ticket details columns
Chatbase Helpdesk inbox from its docs: tickets with status, requester, assignee and ticket details columns

If you've been using Chatbase's helpdesk inbox as your team's ticket queue, that's the biggest move: tickets, assignments and tags don't transfer to a website-bot alternative. Either keep the helpdesk or move the queue to a real help desk first.

How we researched this

On September 19, 2026 we checked every pricing page above in a browser, and on September 24 we rechecked the plan prices and saved its text and a screenshot, read Chatbase's reviews on Trustpilot and Capterra in Chrome, and read the top ten pages ranking for "chatbase alternatives". Review counts were not rechecked on September 24. We also checked G2 for Chatbase directly (4.8 from 45 reviews, checked September 19, 2026); Reddit didn't load at all. We checked AWS Marketplace for every vendor and found no listings, and Vendr has profiles for Chatbase and eesel with no price data. We did not build an agent on any of these platforms and created no vendor accounts for this post, so every figure is from a vendor's page, a review site, or our own arithmetic, and the Chatbase interface shots come from Chatbase's public docs. The one Macha shot is from our own demo account. Tidio's calculator figures and the G2 counts for Tidio, Fin and Botpress come from our AI chatbot for customer service roundup, checked the same day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Chatbase alternative? It depends on why you're leaving. If your support runs in a help desk and you want the agent set up and run for you, Macha: the Macha team analyzes your past tickets, builds the knowledge base and the agent on Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom, and runs it in safe mode until the drafts are right, from $299 a month for 750 tickets, about $0.40 a ticket, which includes setup and a dedicated success manager who handles your changes. For a cheaper website agent, Chatling ($45) and Botsonic ($44) cover our 1,000-conversation month for under a third of Chatbase's $150. For a large knowledge base, CustomGPT.ai. For flows and channels, Botpress. For a help desk agent you configure yourself, Fin or eesel AI. For a broader market view, see our guide to conversational AI platforms.

Is there a free Chatbase alternative? Several have free tiers, none big enough for production: Chatling gives 200 AI credits a month, DocsBot 100, Botpress 25 conversations, Tidio 50 Lyro conversations once, and eesel 100 credits once. Macha has no free plan; its trial is $50 of usage, about 125 tickets, with no card, and the Macha team sets up the first agent during it. Chatbase's own Free plan has 50 credits and deletes agents after 14 days of inactivity.

Is there an open-source Chatbase alternative? Yes, if you have developers. Rasa is an open-source framework (Apache-2.0 on GitHub) for building agents you host yourself, and Botpress's older v12 is on GitHub under AGPL-3.0, though the Botpress sold today is the cloud platform. Neither is a no-code website bot in the way Chatbase is; you trade the subscription for engineering time.

Why is my Chatbase bill higher than the plan price? Because Chatbase charges per model request, not per conversation. A reply costs 1 to 5 credits by model, an action before a reply is a second request, and auto-recharge credits cost $40 per 1,000 once the monthly pool runs out. Check the Usage screen for which agent and model spent the credits.

Does Chatbase work with Zendesk? Yes. On Standard and above, Chatbase's Zendesk integration lets the agent reply to Zendesk tickets or draft replies for review, and its escalation action can open a Zendesk ticket from a chat. It also connects to Freshdesk, Gorgias, Intercom, Help Scout, HubSpot, Salesforce and Zoho Desk for escalations.

Chatbase vs Botpress: which is better? Chatbase is faster to set up and cheaper at small volume ($150 against $709 in our model). Botpress is the better tool when the agent must follow multi-step flows, call APIs or run on several messaging channels, and it bills per conversation, so long conversations don't cost more.

How do I cancel Chatbase? Cancel from Workspace Settings > Plans in the dashboard before your renewal date. One reviewer's September 2026 account says a written request to support didn't stop the charges. Export conversations through the API first if you want the history.

If your support already runs through a help desk and you'd rather have agents working in the ticket than another widget, start with $50 of free Macha usage, and the Macha team builds the first agent for you.

Macha has been a great addition to our support toolkit. It generates clear, well-organized responses that fit naturally into our workflow. One feature we particularly appreciate is its ability to automatically reply in the same language as the ticket.

Support team is very helpful and responsive. Really enjoy how lightweight this is within Zendesk itself vs other more intrusive tools.

So far it's pretty good! Our queries are a little nuanced, so we can't always use it, but it's got enough utility for us. It can even incorporate our bilingual country with greetings in a second language.
