What Are the Best Vapi AI Alternatives in 2026? 7 Voice Platforms Priced at 10,000 Minutes
Vapi's $0.05 a minute is only the platform fee, so its own calculator puts 10,000 call minutes at $819 to $1,290 once model and carrier costs are added. Seven alternatives, from open-source Pipecat to PolyAI's managed contract, each fix a different complaint Vapi users have written down.
Key takeaways
- The best Vapi alternatives are Retell AI and ElevenLabs Agents for one bill, LiveKit and Pipecat for open-source control, Bland for a flat rate, and Synthflow or PolyAI for contracted support.
- Vapi's advertised $0.05-a-minute platform fee excludes model and carrier providers, so its own calculator prices 10,000 minutes at $819 to $1,290 a month with default providers.
- Pipecat Cloud hosts the open-source Pipecat framework at $0.01 a minute per voice agent instance plus $0.018 a minute for phone dial-in, putting platform costs at $280 for 10,000 minutes.
- Retell AI costs about $1,144 for 10,000 minutes with a typical support stack, in the middle of Vapi's range, and holds a 4.9 Trustpilot rating from 814 reviews.
- Vapi's Pro support package costs 10% of the monthly hosting fee with a $999 minimum and adds a one-business-day response SLA and a 99% uptime SLA.
The best Vapi alternatives in 2026 are Retell AI and ElevenLabs Agents if you want one bill, LiveKit and Pipecat if you want open-source control, Bland for one flat per-minute rate, and Synthflow or PolyAI if you want support written into a contract. At 10,000 call minutes a month they run from $280 on Pipecat Cloud (before model fees) to $14,583 on PolyAI, against $819 to $1,290 on Vapi with its default providers.
For the product itself, see our Vapi guide. Most of the pages ranking for this search are written by Vapi's competitors, including Synthflow, Retell and Lindy. Macha isn't a voice platform and isn't counted in this list.
Which Vapi alternative fits your reason for leaving?
| Why you're leaving Vapi | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want one bill instead of five providers | Retell AI or ElevenLabs Agents | Retell bills each component on one invoice; ElevenLabs charges $0.08 a minute on every plan |
| You want to pay less and own the stack | LiveKit or Pipecat | Open-source frameworks with hosted options from $0.01 a minute |
| You want no model pass-throughs at all | Bland | One per-minute rate per plan |
| You need contracted support and an account team | Synthflow or PolyAI | Annual contracts with support written in |
Why do teams leave Vapi?
Vapi's review base is small and negative. On Trustpilot it has 2.4 from 15 reviews, 8 of them from the past year, with 67% one-star. When our Vapi pricing post read G2 the same day, Vapi had 3 out of 5 from 3 reviews. Two Trustpilot reviewers were positive: Robert Peter (Australia, January 18, 2025) praised a technician who called him on a Saturday night. We read all 15 reviews on September 19, 2026; the complaints fall into three groups.
1. The advertised price is only part of the bill. Isadora (Germany, December 9, 2025) wrote that "the pricing they have on there platform is miss leading its just for platform," adding that with an LLM and a carrier the "avg cost is 0.17 to 0.50" a minute. Sam Hardwick (UAE, April 2, 2026) objected that "they charge $1000 for a HIPPA compliant voice receptionist." Vapi's pricing page now lists HIPAA as a $2,000-a-month add-on per organization.
2. Latency and an agent that drifts from its prompt. Samuel Dane (US, March 28, 2026) said the agent "lags a lot and does not act according to the prompt." David Hartmann (UAE, March 25, 2026) described "a 3-5 second pause after each turn." Two reviewers reported the dashboard losing edits: Manny Esposito (Germany, May 7, 2025) said that when you save an assistant field, "like 50% of the time it won't save."
3. Support that takes days. James (Australia, December 11, 2025) wrote that production issues mean "waiting a week for anything to even be looked at properly," and claimed Vapi had "cost us $50k in damages so far from downtime." Andy Roberts (UK, July 2, 2025) waited almost two days for a human reply. Vapi's usage-only tier lists "peer to peer support via Discord community" and "email support without SLA," so slow support on that tier is the plan working as described.
Who should stay on Vapi?
Developers who like Vapi usually like it for real reasons: you can bring your own keys for every provider, switch models per assistant, and connect almost any carrier. Its docs include SIP trunk guides for Twilio, Telnyx, DIDWW, didlogic, Zadarma, Plivo and Amazon Chime, and it's sold on AWS Marketplace (listing prodview-tskr3mpoou7is, $0.05 a minute).
The support complaint also has a fix inside Vapi, at a price. The Pro package costs 10% of your hosting fee with a $999 monthly minimum and adds a one-business-day response SLA, a 99% uptime SLA and a dedicated Slack channel; Premier adds a named support team and a one-hour response SLA for critical issues. If your only problem is support and you spend enough to justify $999 a month, buying Pro is cheaper than migrating.
How do the Vapi alternatives compare?
Prices checked September 19, 2026 on each vendor's pricing page; the Vapi, Retell, ElevenLabs, Bland, Synthflow, LiveKit and Pipecat Cloud rates were rechecked September 24, 2026 and hadn't changed. Ratings are Trustpilot unless noted.

What do the alternatives cost at 10,000 minutes a month?
We modeled an inbound line with a 4-minute average call, about 2,500 calls a month. Vapi's own calculator puts 10,000 minutes at $819 to $1,290 with its default providers (Deepgram, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Vapi telephony at $0).
| Platform | 10,000 minutes a month | How we got there |
|---|---|---|
| Vapi | $819–$1,290 | Vapi calculator, usage-only tier |
| Pipecat Cloud | $280 + your provider bills | agent-1x hosting $0.01 + Daily PSTN $0.018 a minute; STT, LLM and TTS billed by each provider |
| LiveKit Cloud (Ship) | about $591 | $50 plan + $50 extra session minutes + $99 inbound minutes + $367 inference + $25 recordings |
| ElevenLabs Agents | about $812 + telephony | Pro $99 + 8,762 extra minutes × $0.08 + about $12 of Gemini 2.5 Flash |
| Retell AI | $1,144 | $0.114 a minute (GPT 5.4 mini, platform voice, Retell telephony, knowledge base) + two $2 numbers |
| Bland | $1,400 | Start plan, $0.14 a minute, no platform fee |
| Synthflow (estimate) | $2,500 | $30,000 annual floor ÷ 12 |
| PolyAI | $14,583 minimum | AWS contract, $175,000 a year for up to 500,000 minutes |
The Pipecat row isn't comparable on its own: it excludes the transcriber, model and voice you'd pay each provider for, which on LiveKit's default stack is about $0.037 a minute, or roughly $370 more. Even so, both open-source frameworks, on their hosted plans, come in under Vapi's range; of the other platforms, only ElevenLabs does.
What are the 7 best Vapi alternatives?
Retell AI
Retell is the hosted platform most often compared with Vapi, and the one with the reviews Vapi lacks: 4.9 on Trustpilot from 814 reviews. Its pricing page lists $0.07 to $0.31 a minute for voice, with every component (voice infrastructure, voice, model, telephony, add-ons) on one Retell invoice. It includes 20 concurrent calls, then charges $8 a month per extra line; numbers are $2 a month.
It answers the "bill in parts" complaint by consolidating it, not by removing it: you still choose a model and voice, and each changes the rate. At 10,000 minutes a typical support stack costs about $1,144, in the middle of Vapi's range. Retell's own complaints are about support running through an AI and Discord and about calls to unsupported countries; our Retell AI alternatives guide covers them. Choose it if you want Vapi's flexibility with a visual builder and one bill. See our Retell AI guide.
ElevenLabs Agents
ElevenLabs prices every call minute at $0.08 on every plan, from Free with 15 minutes and Starter at $6 for 75 minutes to Business at $990 for 12,375, per its Agents pricing page. Its help center adds that voice calls are billed on connection duration "with a 95% discount for periods of silence longer than 10 seconds." The model is passed through at cost and telephony comes from your carrier.
Isadora's review ended with "Eleven labs is so better atleast don't charge Hidden Cost," and the arithmetic backs her: about $812 at 10,000 minutes before telephony, the cheapest hosted row here. The watch-out: new self-serve customers buy extra minutes from a prepaid balance, and service pauses at zero if auto top-up is off. Trustpilot's 3.0 from 1,150 reviews covers the whole company. Choose it if voice quality and the lowest published per-minute rate matter more than a visual flow builder. See our ElevenLabs Agents guide.
LiveKit
LiveKit's agent framework is open source under Apache-2.0 on GitHub, where it has about 14,300 stars; you can run it on your own servers and pay only for infrastructure, models and your carrier. LiveKit Cloud hosts it: Build is free, Ship starts at $50 a month with 5,000 agent-session minutes included, and Scale starts at $500 with region pinning and HIPAA, per its pricing page.
On Ship, the calculator's default phone stack comes to about $591 at 10,000 minutes, below the bottom of Vapi's range. For the latency complaint, LiveKit lets you pick the transcriber, model and voice and, on Scale, pin the region. The cost is that you're writing code; there's no no-code builder. Choose it if Vapi appealed to you as a developer and you'd rather own the stack. We don't have a LiveKit guide.
Pipecat
Pipecat is an open-source Python framework for voice agents from Daily, BSD-2-Clause licensed, with about 15,700 GitHub stars. Pipecat Cloud hosts it: the pricing page lists $0.01 a minute for a voice agent instance, "unlimited concurrency," $0.018 a minute for Daily phone dial-in and dial-out, and direct billing from 80+ providers for the models.
That puts platform and phone at $280 for 10,000 minutes, with your transcriber, model and voice bills on top. The watch-out comes from the Hacker News thread that ranks for this search: one developer who had built on it (November 11, 2025) called Pipecat a good project but "not enterprise ready need to do lot of work to deploy." Choose it if you want the lowest platform cost and have engineers to run it.
Bland
Bland removes the part of Vapi's bill people complain about most. Its pricing page promises "No token charges. No model-provider pass-throughs," and charges one rate per plan: Start at $0.14 a minute with no platform fee, Build at $0.12 plus $299 a month. For a single agent that answers one call at a time, the Agent Phone Plan is $29.99 a month for one number with unlimited voice and SMS in the US and Canada.
At 10,000 minutes on Start you pay $1,400, above Vapi's range; the trade is a price you can predict. Settle one wording conflict before you sign: the pricing FAQ says telephony is billed separately, while the billing docs say SIP cost is included on Bland's endpoints. Trustpilot has 2 reviews. Choose it if a predictable per-minute rate matters more than choosing your model. See our Bland AI guide.
Synthflow
Synthflow now sells only annual contracts, from $30,000 a year, with an account team, launch support and contracted SLA terms. It addresses James's week-long waits by putting support in the contract; the price is $2,500 a month before you place a call, so it only makes sense above roughly 31,000 minutes a month.
Its usage docs show metering more generous than Vapi's: seconds pool across calls, failed and canceled calls aren't billed, and unanswered calls cost a flat 5 seconds. Trustpilot shows 4.1 from 215 reviews, mostly from before the contract change. Choose it if you're past roughly 31,000 minutes a month and want a vendor accountable for support, not a self-serve dashboard. Our Synthflow alternatives guide covers its trade-offs, and the Synthflow guide the product.
PolyAI
PolyAI builds and runs the agent for you, and its pricing page says per-minute pricing "includes proactive performance improvements, maintenance and 24/7 support." Its AWS Marketplace listing sets the entry point: 500,000 minutes over 12 months for $175,000, or $0.35 a minute, with no refunds.
That's $14,583 a month, far above anything else here, and the opposite of Vapi's do-it-yourself model: PolyAI's team owns the agent's performance. Choose it if you run a contact center with steady volume and would rather pay a vendor than staff voice engineers. See our PolyAI guide.
Also considered
Dograh is an open-source workflow builder for voice agents that appears in this search's related queries; its developers introduced it in the Hacker News thread above. Synthflow, Retell and Lindy each publish their own Vapi-alternative pages, and CloudTalk sells AI voice agents inside a business phone system if you also need seats for human agents.
What does each billing model reward?
Vapi charges a fixed $0.05 platform fee and passes everything else through. That rewards you for choosing cheap providers, and because Vapi's fee is the same whichever providers you pick, Vapi earns more when you run more minutes, not when you choose a pricier model. It also makes Vapi's headline price the smallest number on your bill.
| Billing unit | Platforms | What it rewards | Who carries the complexity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform fee + providers at cost | Vapi, Pipecat Cloud | Shopping each provider for price | You, across several invoices |
| Components on one invoice | Retell, LiveKit Cloud | Heavier models earn the vendor more | You choose; the vendor bills |
| One rate per minute | Bland, ElevenLabs | Longer calls | The vendor, who absorbs (Bland) or passes through (ElevenLabs) the model |
| Annual contract | Synthflow, PolyAI | Fixed revenue for the vendor | You, until your volume passes the floor |
What moves when you switch from Vapi?
Assistant configuration exports as JSON. Vapi's API has Get Assistant and List Calls endpoints, so a developer can pull every assistant's prompt, model, voice and tool definitions. No other platform reads Vapi's format, so plan to rebuild; the prompts and tool schemas move almost unchanged.
Imported numbers stay yours. If your numbers live in Twilio, Telnyx or another SIP carrier, re-point the trunk at the new platform. Vapi's free numbers are different: its docs say they "use US area codes and support US national calling only," and don't describe porting them out, so move customers to a carrier-owned number before you leave.
Provider accounts come with you. If you brought your own Deepgram, OpenAI or ElevenLabs keys, those contracts and voices carry over to LiveKit, Pipecat or Retell.
Tools and webhooks. Your endpoints keep working; re-register each tool on the new platform and test with real calls, especially anything Vapi reviewers said failed, like DTMF.
What if your queue is tickets, not calls?
If most of your volume is email and chat in a help desk, a voice framework is the wrong tool. Macha is an AI agent layer on Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front, HubSpot or Intercom: agents read and reply inside the ticket, billing is per ticket from $299 a month for 750 tickets, and setup and monitoring by the Macha team are included. It suits teams already on one of those help desks and doesn't answer phone calls. The tiers are on our pricing page, and our guide to AI agents for customer service covers where voice and ticket agents each fit.
How we researched this
On September 19, 2026 we checked the pricing pages of Vapi and all seven alternatives, Vapi's free-telephony docs and docs index, Bland's Agent Phone Plan docs, Synthflow's usage docs, ElevenLabs' help center, the LiveKit and Pipecat repositories on GitHub, and PolyAI's AWS listing. We read all 15 Vapi reviews on Trustpilot with a scripted browser and the Hacker News thread through its public API; the Reddit thread that ranks first for this search wouldn't load, and G2 blocked our browser, so G2 figures come from our pricing posts' reads that day. We did not build agents or create accounts on any platform, so the costs come from published rates and our stated assumptions.
Frequently asked questions
What are some free alternatives to Vapi? LiveKit's agent framework (Apache-2.0) and Pipecat (BSD-2-Clause) are open source and free to self-host; you pay for servers, models and a carrier. Hosted free tiers include LiveKit Cloud Build, ElevenLabs Agents' free plan (15 minutes), Retell's $10 credit and Bland's Start plan with no platform fee.
Can I use Vapi AI for free? Vapi gives $5 of credit and one free US number, which supports US national calling only. After the credit you pay $0.05 a minute plus the providers.
Is Vapi AI expensive? The platform fee is low, but the total isn't: Vapi's calculator puts 10,000 minutes at $819 to $1,290 with default providers, and one reviewer reported an average of $0.17 to $0.50 a minute with their setup. Support SLAs start with the Pro package at a $999 monthly minimum, and HIPAA is $2,000 a month.
What is the best Vapi alternative for developers? LiveKit, if you want an open-source framework with a hosted option; about $591 at 10,000 minutes on LiveKit Cloud with its default stack. Pipecat is the other open-source option, with hosting at $0.01 a minute.
Is Retell better than Vapi? Retell has far stronger reviews (4.9 from 814 on Trustpilot against Vapi's 2.4 from 15) and a visual builder, and costs about $1,144 at 10,000 minutes against Vapi's $819 to $1,290. Vapi gives you more control over individual providers and carriers.
What companies use Vapi? Vapi's customers page names Amazon Ring, Kavak, Mindtickle, ServiceTitan, New York Life, Intuit, Instawork and others. Those are Vapi's own case studies, which we haven't verified independently.
Which Vapi alternative has the best support? PolyAI and Synthflow put support in the contract, from $175,000 and $30,000 a year respectively. Within Vapi, the Pro package adds a one-business-day response SLA.
Is Bland cheaper than Vapi? Not at 10,000 minutes: Bland's Start plan costs $1,400. Bland's price is one rate with no model pass-throughs, so it's easier to predict.
If your support volume sits in a help desk rather than on the phone, you can start a Macha trial with $50 of free usage and no card, or see our tiers on the pricing page.
